What does StripIt actually do?
StripIt removes the hidden metadata embedded in your photos before you share them. Every iPhone photo carries 25+ invisible tags — GPS coordinates, camera serial number, lens model, timestamp accurate to the second, software version, altitude, and more. Apple's "Remove Location" toggle strips one of them. StripIt strips all of them.
There are three modes: Strip removes everything, Scramble replaces real metadata with believable fakes, and Inject adds fake metadata to clean images.
Does StripIt upload my photos anywhere?
No. All processing happens entirely on your device using Apple's native ImageIO framework. Your photos never leave your phone. StripIt makes zero network requests to our servers — there are no servers.
What's the free tier? What does Ghost Mode add?
Free tier: 5 strips per day, one photo at a time, Strip mode only. Resets at midnight.
Ghost Mode ($9.99 once): Unlimited strips, batch up to 50 photos, Scramble mode, Inject mode, resize for social, HEIC-to-JPG conversion, compression control, and the Share Extension.
Ghost Mode Family ($19.99 once): Everything in Ghost Mode, shared with up to 6 people via Apple Family Sharing.
Both are one-time purchases. No subscription, no renewal.
What's the difference between Strip, Scramble, and Inject?
- Strip — removes all metadata. The output has zero EXIF tags. Best for most sharing situations.
- Scramble — replaces your real metadata with plausible fakes. Different camera, different location, different timestamp. The photo still has tags — just none of them are yours. Requires Ghost Mode.
- Inject — adds fake metadata to a photo that has none (AI-generated images, screenshots, etc.). Requires Ghost Mode.
Does StripIt modify my original photos?
No. StripIt processes a copy of your photo in memory. Your original photo in the Photos library is never touched. The cleaned version only leaves the app when you explicitly tap "Save to Photos" or "Share."
I bought Ghost Mode but the app still shows the free tier.
Go to Settings (the gear icon in the top-right of the main screen) and tap Restore Purchases. This re-verifies your purchase with the App Store and unlocks Ghost Mode.
If that doesn't work, make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you used to purchase. Then try force-quitting the app and reopening it.
How does Ghost Mode Family work?
Ghost Mode Family is a Family Shareable in-app purchase. Once you buy it, everyone in your Apple Family Sharing group (up to 6 people) automatically gets Ghost Mode on their own devices — no codes, no extra steps. They just need to open StripIt and restore purchases.
Family Sharing must be set up in your iPhone's Settings before the purchase for sharing to work.
Can I get a refund?
Refund requests go through Apple, not us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, find your StripIt purchase, and request a refund. Apple typically processes these within a few days.
If you're having a problem with the app itself, email us at support@maneo.house first — we'd rather fix the issue than lose you.
I got a new iPhone. Do I need to buy Ghost Mode again?
No. Ghost Mode is tied to your Apple ID, not your device. Install StripIt on your new phone, open it, go to Settings, and tap Restore Purchases. Your purchase will be restored at no charge.
How do I use StripIt from the Photos app?
Open a photo in the Photos app, tap the Share button, scroll through the share sheet, and tap Stripit. The extension will analyze the photo, show you what metadata it found, and let you strip or scramble before sharing or saving.
If Stripit doesn't appear in your share sheet, scroll to the end of the app row and tap More to enable it.
How do I use StripIt in iMessage?
Open a conversation in Messages. Tap the + button next to the text field, then look for the Stripit icon in the app drawer. Tap it to open the iMessage extension, choose a photo, and tap Send Stripped Photo.
If you don't see the Stripit icon, tap More in the app drawer and enable it.
The Share Extension shows a blank screen.
This can happen if the extension is invoked with a file type it doesn't recognize. Try sharing directly from the Photos app rather than from another app. If the issue persists, force-quit StripIt from the app switcher, reopen it, and try again.
If it still doesn't work, email us at support@maneo.house with your iOS version and which app you were sharing from.
Does the Share Extension require Ghost Mode?
Strip mode in the Share Extension is available to all users (subject to the 5-per-day free limit). Scramble mode in the Share Extension requires Ghost Mode.
What image formats does StripIt support?
StripIt processes any image format that iOS can read — JPEG, HEIC, PNG, and most RAW formats. The output is always JPEG. If you need to preserve the original format, use the "Convert to JPG" toggle in Ghost Mode settings.
Does StripIt remove ALL metadata, or just location?
Strip mode removes all EXIF metadata — GPS, camera model, lens, serial number, timestamp, software version, altitude, speed, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, flash, color space, and more. It's not just location.
Apple's "Remove Location" toggle in the share sheet removes only the GPS dictionary. StripIt removes everything.
Why is the stripped photo slightly smaller than the original?
Removing metadata reduces file size slightly — typically 5–20 KB depending on how much metadata the original had. The image pixels are preserved at the same quality. If you want to reduce file size further, use the Resize for social or Compression options in Ghost Mode.
Does Scramble mode use my real location for the fake GPS?
No. Scramble mode picks a random city from a list of ~80 hand-picked downtown locations worldwide and adds a small random offset. It never reads your device's GPS. The fake coordinates are generated entirely from a static list of city centers — your real location is never accessed.
What iOS version does StripIt require?
StripIt requires iOS 17 or later. It is optimized for iPhone and is not available on iPad or Mac.
Why does the daily limit persist after I delete and reinstall the app?
The daily limit counter is stored in the iOS Keychain, which persists across app deletion. This is intentional — it prevents the free tier from being reset by reinstalling. The counter contains only an integer and a date, no personal information. It clears automatically when you reset your device or sign out of iCloud.
If you've purchased Ghost Mode, the daily limit doesn't apply to you.
What data does StripIt collect?
None. StripIt collects no personal data, no analytics, no telemetry. It contains zero third-party SDKs and makes zero network requests to our servers. The only data stored is on your device: a usage counter, the daily limit tracker, and your Ghost Mode entitlement status.

Does StripIt need access to my entire photo library?
No. Photo selection uses Apple's system photo picker, which runs in a separate process and does not grant StripIt access to your library. The app only sees the specific photos you choose to share with it.
The only Photos permission StripIt requests is Add Only — used when you tap "Save to Photos." This lets the app save processed images without being able to read or browse your library.
